Niseko sightseeing in summer

Niseko is a general term for mountainous hills in western Hokkaido. Includes Iwanai Town, Kyowa Town, Kutchan Town, Niseko Town, and Rankoshi Town. All five towns in the region have been designated as exceptional heavy snowfall areas. And there is a lot of snow in winter. The name of Niseko has derived from the Ainu word "Niseko an Petz" (river in the canyon).

It is a two-hour drive from Sapporo to Niseko, making it a significant tourist destination in Hokkaido. Its pleasant natural environment is highly evaluated internationally. "Ski and Niseko mountain range" has been selected as a Hokkaido heritage site. The Shiribetsu River has been certified as the best static river in Japan, and it is also the river where salmon climb. The area around Niseko Annupuri has designated as Niseko Shakotan Otaru Coast National Monument.

The center of Niseko tourism has outdoor activities, and it is a resort area that you can enjoy all year round. In the summertime, you can enjoy activities like mountaineering, trekking, cycling, canoeing, rafting, golf, horseback riding, fishing, balloons, and dog runs. On the contrary, powder snow is famous in winter, and winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing are also popular.

Another pleasure of sightseeing in Niseko is the hot springs after the activity. Each facility in Niseko Onsenkyo has its own hot spring source, and it has characterized by a wide variety of hot springs.

Australians who visited in the mid-1990s moved to Niseko because of their skiing and natural environment, and the number of Australian tourists began to increase from the early 2000s due to word of mouth such as devising and introducing new summer activities. Real estate development such as Mansions and condominiums with Australian capital has progressed mainly in the Hirafu area. It is also attracting attention from the Asian region, and the improvement of Chinese / Hong Kong and Malaysian capital is also progressing.
